Helping Hands
Her name is Qin Yu Rong and she is 4 years old. She doesn't talk but has said words. She can walk but plays by herself most of the time. When she arrived a month ago she would not eat, talk or walk. But just being around the other kids she has started walking and eating again.
Cathy made a difference for this one.
This little girl was deaf and blind but to look at her you could not tell this. She was fussy as we thought she was cutting some teeth. She was left to fend for herself in a walker so Cathy picked her and started singing to her as we did not know at this point that she was deaf. Although she couldn't hear Cathy she could feel Cathy's throat vibrating and moved her head closer to Cathy's throat. She fell asleep in Cathy arm's and at least for a day she felt loving arms around her.
Making a Difference to This One!
(Poem by Bob Sanders)
A young man was strolling along the beach
Suddenly he caught view
and compassionately saw through
further than his eye or heart could reach
helpless starfish spewed upon the beach
endless scores washed upon the shore
for the tide has receded
Now all were craving that helping hand so badly needed
multitudes snared and left behind
unsaved upon that rugged shoreline
What could the young man do--
but go for the rescue?
No more out of sight, out of mind
not this time...
Without regret or remorse
he passionately pursued what seemed right and good
with his heart tugging him upon this obvious course
to save as many as he could
Meantime.... With a frustrated glance
an old man watched from a distance
in unbelief and ridicule
Censoring the young man and judging him a fool
"Are you out of your head?
Why do you go...don't you know...
there are continuous miles, and countless thousands-
starfish innumerable on these endless coastlands?
Your dream is a waste
and these lives mere throw aways!
They are not your responsibility!
What Difference Can You Possibly Make?”
Then the young man picked up a starfish and said,
It Makes A Difference To This One!

These little guys met us at the door with antiseptic hand wash so we could wash our hands before coming in.
