Jessica and Joe climbed to the top of this part of the castle called "Observatory Tower". In 1822 the upper most part was added for Governor Merryweather's telescope to observe the stars.
Joe and Jessica also climbed "Lucy's Tower" inside the castle. The inside of Lucy's Tower also became the graveyard for the prisoner's held and executed at the castle. They still hold prisoners and hear court cases at the castle. We almost walked in on a trial while there. The tombstones where placed at the prisoner's feet instead of their head as a final mark of disrespect.
William the Conqueror (crowned king on Christmas Day) having built the castle also built the cathedral.
While visting these two historical places we noticed a bit of snow flying around as we trudged through the 30 degree weather to see them.
We also noticed a few students sketching the cathedral while talking on their mobile phones.
Once inside the cathedral we walked around locating key points of interests. While doing so we listened to the organist play (or practice) on the pipe organ. At 3:00 one of the priests spoke over the intercom asking that we observe a moment of silence followed by saying the Lord's Prayer. Even the organist stopped playing and observed the silence.
Pictures cannot do the stained glass windows justice. One whole wall was completely covered with them.
And who can resist coming to England and getting a picture taken in a phone booth.
Next in line after a phone booth shot is the old pub shot with a warm dark beer. Cheers.

I loved the picture of Lucy's tower. It made it look so steep! I'm so glad you had a great vacation with your family!
